The classic concept of a steel and leather chair revisited and done different.
The idea behind the chair is that people have been making steel and leather chairs in the same way for a long time. Normally, designers use the steel for construction and the leather for the seats. I turned that around. I wanted to use leather as a construction element.
The chair gives the illusion that the leather serves as a construction element.
Due to restrictions on material usage, I adapted the concept to make it buildable whithin the context.
The leather cylinder looks monumental, unorthodox and also uncomfortable. But the cylinder is only hard on the bottom. So when seated, the cylinder forms a custom backrest which is very comfortable.
The chair with an actual leather construction part is still a concept. The concept needs more research before it can be executed.
The chair presented here can be seen as a prototype, ready for further
development.
